The Peace Garden
A browser-based immersive artwork originally created in 2019 and recontextualised in 2026 for contemporary audiences. It was co-produced as a collective safe space by One to One Development Trust bringing together Syrian Women seeking asylum, people with sight loss and marginalised young people from Wakefield, UK.
Created through workshops with One to One Development Trust using Tilt Brush and other Virtual Reality technologies, the project invited participants to explore immersive digital creativity while sharing stories, experiences and imagination through virtual sculpture and artwork. Each group brought different lived experiences and challenges to the process, including sight impairment, trauma and social isolation, helping shape a space centred on care, reflection and connection.
The Peace Garden emerged as a magical immersive landscape celebrating community, creativity, and shared storytelling through accessible digital world-building.
In 2026, the project is being revisited as an early precursor to contemporary XR practice, demonstrating how collaborative immersive environments can create meaningful, restorative and inclusive digital spaces beyond spectacle-driven technology.
